Dr. De Angelo prefers to preserve the all-white beauty of a smile, so he places composite resin, tooth-colored fillings instead of dark silver amalgams. Resin fillings are durable and won't change shape or leak like amalgams can. They also contain no mercury, a heavy metal found in dental amalgam. To place a tooth-colored filling, Dr. De Angelo first prepares a tooth by removing tooth decay, then he places a custom-colored bit of liquid composite resin into the cavity. With a curing light, he hardens the resin to a solid state. After sculpting and polishing the filling, he makes sure that the patient's bite comes together properly.
